CNE rectors put charges at the order of the National Assembly

This Thursday, the rectors of the National Electoral Council (CNE) announced their resignation and placed their positions under the order of the Legislative Power, in order for it to appoint the new rectors of the electoral body.

At a press conference, the president of the CNE, Pedro Calzadilla, reported that the rectors, after contributing to the country, “we have placed our positions under the order of the National Assembly, so that it is the Legislative Power, constitutionally empowered, that once again designate a National Electoral Council that represents the consensus and aspirations of the democratic sectors of the Venezuelan people”.

He commented that in 2021, when they were appointed, their mission was to guarantee an electoral process with the greatest number of political factors, opening the doors to many of those who were outside the constitutional framework, in order to contribute to the political stabilization that the country needed. .

He referred to the guarantees that the CNE has provided over the years. In this sense, he commented that in November 2021 and January 2022, 3,082 regional and municipal positions were chosen, in a process whose main characteristic was peace.

“We are sure – he said – that the elections were an unequivocal sign of tranquility for all the Venezuelan people.”

Likewise, he said that during 2022 and 2023 efforts have been aimed at modernizing the Civil Registry, a dependency that has been affected by unilateral coercive measures.

As in the exercise of suffrage, the CNE has a delicate mission in this task, guaranteeing the human right to identity, it is the livelihood, the basis for Venezuelans to fully exercise their sovereignty.

Elections

Calzadilla indicated that Venezuela begins an electoral cycle of importance, whose first election is the presidential one.

For this reason, in order to contribute to this objective, they submit their positions to the order of the National Assembly, so that it designates a new National Electoral Council.

In functions

He explained that as long as the National Assembly complies with the legal terms of a new appointment, the rectors will continue in the exercise of their functions, as well as the activities and projects of the CNE for the upcoming electoral process.

Calzadilla, on behalf of the rectors, thanked the CNE workers “for the lessons they leave us,” and the Venezuelan people “for their courage and conviction that in each election we exercise sovereignty.”

In addition to Calzadilla, the rectors Alexis Corredor, Leonel Parica, Carlos Quintero, Gustavo Vizcaíno, Saúl Bernal, Rafael Chacón and Francisco Garcés signed the resignation.

Below are the verbatim statements of Calzadilla.
