CNC projects greater supply of temporary vacancies since Christmas 2013

The National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC) provides for the hiring of 109,400 temporary workers in the country to account for the expected increase in retail sales for Christmas, estimated at 2.1%. This must be the biggest offer of temporary work in 9 years, when, in 2013, 115,500 jobs were opened.CNC projects greater supply of temporary vacancies since Christmas 2013

The CNC’s estimate, released today (26), is that the effective rate will be 11%, which represents 3 percentage points less than in 2021.

Regionally, São Paulo (30,300), Minas Gerais (12,200), Paraná (8,900) and Rio de Janeiro (8,000) will concentrate 54% of the vacancies offered for Christmas this year. CNC’s forecasts are based on seasonal aspects of admissions and dismissals in the retail trade, recorded monthly by the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged).

“The conversion of temporary jobs into permanent jobs in 2022 should not be as expressive as after Christmas 2021, when it reached 15%, because, last year, retail was still replacing the jobs that had been closed in the first two waves of sales. covid-19”, said the president of CNC, José Roberto Tadros.

According to CNC, 97,000 temporary workers were hired in 2021, 46% more than in 2020, the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic. Two months before Christmas 2020 and 2021, retail consumer circulation was still, respectively, 22.1% and 4.8% below the pre-pandemic level. Currently, the flow of consumers in stores is already 3.1% above the period immediately before the beginning of the health crisis.

The largest contract volumes should be concentrated in the hypermarkets and supermarkets sector, in which the forecast is for the opening of 45.5 thousand temporary vacancies, and in the clothing sector, with 25.8 thousand. “If, on the one hand, hypermarkets and supermarkets, which are the segments that employ the most in retail, stand out in the absolute number of vacancies, clothing, accessories and footwear stores are, historically, the most benefited by Christmas sales”, said the CNC economist responsible for the research, Fabio Bentes.

While retail revenue grows, on average, 34% in the year-end period, the clothing sector usually registers a high of up to 90%.

The average admission salary should reach R$1,600, thus increasing by 2.5% in nominal terms, compared to the same period last year, when the average salary was R$1,500. The highest amounts, of BRL 2,300, must be paid by stores specializing in the sale of IT and communication products, followed by the pharmaceutical, perfumery and cosmetics sector, which must pay around BRL 1.8 thousand. However, these segments account for only 2.3% of the total vacancies to be created.

CNC forecasts a 2.1% increase in year-end retail sales as a whole. The branch of hyper and supermarkets tends to register high of 4.8% in sales, already discounted for inflation, but sales in housewares and electronics stores should fall 3.4% compared to last year.

“This perspective stems from the sum of the deceleration of inflation and the increase in credit, since the interest rate on operations involving individuals reached the highest level since April 2018, which favors purchases in segments that depend less on loans and financing”, explained Fabio Bentes.
