CNC for assaults on shopping centers: “It is urgent that all sectors work together on a national security policy”

José Pakomio, vice president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Chile (CNC), addressed the recent assaults that occurred in shopping centers or mallsspecifically the last one registered this Sunday at Plaza Egaña.

“We see with horror how shopping malls are being victims of the same scourge that is affecting the entire country. The mall is one more neighbor of the city, it is as much a victim as the rest of the other spaces, crime broke out and infiltrated all spaces of daily life”, declared Pakomio, through a public statement.

And he added: “What we saw yesterday at Mall Plaza Egaña and a couple of weeks ago at Portal La Dehesa and Mall Arauco Maipú seems to only worry the public.” In this sense, he pointed to the authorities, which, in his opinion, “it is as if they were waiting for this phenomenon to increase more and more to really take decisive action.”

“We are especially concerned about the workers in the sector, who are exposed to this wave of unbridled violence,” Pakomio said.

The vice president of the CNC maintained that “experience tells us that crime advances at a faster rate than the measures that are implemented and that is something that the Government understands”, but in his opinion the reaction is “late” and the criminals ” They already know it, they being the ones who set the tone, when it should be the other way around”.

For this reason, he said, “it is urgent that all sectors work together on a national security policy in order to curb criminal acts and restore security to consumers and workers in our sectors.”
