Rural producers in municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul affected by floods will have more time to renegotiate their debts. In an extraordinary meeting this Friday (13), the National Monetary Council (CMN) set new dates for financial institutions to extend the installments of credit lines for financing, investment and industrialization.
The due date for installments of rural credit operations, in general, has been changed from September 16 to October 15. The measure benefits both products that received discounts brought by the Decree 12.138published in August, as well as borrowers who do not qualify. Those who did not receive the discount, however, must prove a loss of income of at least 30% due to the climate tragedy.
For loans with controlled resources, coming from official banks or granted with specific money for the rural sector, the deadline was extended from October 15 to October 30. In this case, the extension is only valid for borrowers who formalized the discount request based on the decree.
In a statement, the Ministry of Finance reported that the postponement will prevent rural producers with losses from defaulting on their payments. According to the ministry, borrowers will have more time and peace of mind to request the discounts provided for in the decree issued in August.
The renegotiation benefits producers who contracted credit operations until April 15, with installments due between May 1 and December 31. With the new rule, installments until the end of the year will only start to be paid on October 15 or October 30, depending on the situation.
Chaired by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, the CMN is also composed of the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, and the Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet.
