CMD suspends strike called for Tuesday

CMD suspende paro convocado para el martes

Santo Domingo.-The Government and the Dominican Medical College (CMD) agreed this Friday to keep the dialogue open and suspend the national strike that was scheduled by the doctors for next Tuesday, November 12.

At the meeting it was also agreed to hold a meeting next Wednesday, November 13, with the participation this time of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, in response to a request from the Dominican Medical College.

The parties reached the agreement after a meeting headed by Vice President Raquel Peña, in which members of the Health Cabinet and the president of the CMD, Waldo Ariel Suero, participated.

A press release indicates that this decision seeks to continue the negotiations between the union and the government in order to reach an agreement that benefits the health sector and citizens.

After the initial announcement of the strike, the Minister of Public Health, Víctor Atallah reiterated the importance of maintaining a constant dialogue as the best way to address the needs and demands of health professionals.

“The government is committed to listening and working together with all unions in the health sector. We understand that many solutions require an organization and a comprehensive approach, and we are willing to join forces in this process,” he assured.

This next meeting aims to continue the dialogue process and advance concrete solutions that strengthen the health system.
