Closure of Mexicana routes will not affect tourist destinations: WTTC

Closure of Mexicana routes will not affect tourist destinations: WTTC

The vice president senior of World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Virginia Messina, considered that the adjustment of operations, which includes route closures, initiated this week by Mexican Aviation It is typical of the industry and that tourist destinations will not be affected.

Among the eight routes that are no longer available by the Mexican State Airline from the Felipe International Airport (AIFA) are those that connect with Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Ixtapa and Puerto Vallarta-Guadalajara. These operations were carried out with 50-passenger Embraer aircraft of the regional airline TAR.

“They are decisions that companies make. Airlines (around the world) work on a supply and demand basis, in this case I understand that they have been operating the routes for some time. Surely it is an adjustment in terms of numbers and operations and should not affect the destinations. Furthermore, we are going to enter the low season,” he explained.

At a press conference he highlighted that the operation of AIFA Guadalajara (which is not affected) is one where things are going best in terms of tourism.

Based on public information, Viva, Aeroméxico and Volaris also serve the totally tourism-oriented routes that Mexicana de Aviación recently canceled.

“Airlines work like this, sometimes depending on demand they make adjustments, there probably weren’t any and that’s why they make the decision, but there will surely be alternatives for passengers,” Messina added.
