Closure of CECEP in Cali leaves more than 600 students in uncertainty

The Ministry of Labor ordered the temporary closure of the CECEP University Foundationin Cali, after detecting alleged non-compliance in the payment of workers’ social security.

The decision, which seeks guarantee the labor rights of administrative and teaching staffhas generated deep concern among more than 500 students who today fear for the continuity of their studies.

According to sources close to the process, the negotiations between the Special Assets Company (SAE) and the Ministry of National Education (MENU) have not made significant progress, which keeps academic activities suspended.

A spokesperson for the student movement publicly denounced the lack of support from the National Government and described the event as a “scam.”

“We denounce the SAE, the Ministry of National Education (MEN) and to President Gustavo Petro, because they appointed some people to handle the CECEP case and – to date – They have not given us a response. We denounce Daniel Rojas Medellín, Amelia Pérez and Orfa Margarita Giraldo, who were responsible for damaging the institution and allegedly defrauding the students,” he said.

According to the testimony, around 500 old students and 37 primiparous They have paid tuition fees of up to 2 million 500 thousand pesos, without being certain about the continuity of their academic process.
