“Since the month of February, the heat has increased in the Caribbean Sea, exceeding 1.5 degrees of temperature, and this also increases towards the Amazon basin, towards the Pacific basin and for this period it is expected that tornadoes, cyclones will double and this climatic variability, accelerated, abrupt, of course generates imbalances in the periods of rain and dry seasons,” reported the Sectoral Vice President and Minister for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez.
The minister, during the World Congress in Defense of Mother Earthwhich is held with guests from 63 countries and national delegates from all the communes and communal circuits, gave an informative report to the president Nicolás Maduro Moros about this fact generated by climate change, of great relevance for life and the development of socioeconomic dynamics in the country and the entire region.
The Venezuelan scientist also explained how there has been an important change in the vectors of diseases such as dengue, which is a consequence of the increase in water levels that, therefore, also affects the health of the people.
He highlighted that temperature variability has also generated “water stress” due to excess, and referred to the case of the increase in the flow of the Orinoco River, a phenomenon that will surely not be seen in the next 100 years. “Of course, this also affects the geographical behavior and the affected peasant communities, fishermen, humble villages, flooded schools and it is the citizens, women, children, all of us who live the consequences daily.”
Jiménez mentioned that human beings are part of a single Planet Earth, and the World Congress in defense of Mother Earth points in that direction, to preserve it for future generations.
“And, of course, this agenda called by you, president, is to defend life, the life of the earth, human life and all its expressions (…) and it is an extraordinary opportunity, president, because you are surrounded by so many people who with the same heart feel deep love for the Mother Earth.”
