Today (18) the cleaning and removal of burnt materials began from the inside of the burned building on Rua Barão de Duprat, in the region of Rua 25 de Março, known for popular commerce in São Paulo. Preparations for the demolition of the building began on Saturday (16). 
According to the Municipal Department of Urban Infrastructure and Works (Siurb), work on internal lighting has also started today. Until next weekend, the installation of the security screen on the left side of the building will be carried out.
The city government informed that two stores close to the burned building on Rua Comendador Abdo Schahin, between numbers 70 and 102, are still preventively banned, as they are in the building’s isolation area.
According to the Traffic Engineering Company (CET), Rua Abdo Schahin remains blocked for car traffic on the stretch between Rua Afonso Kherlakian and Rua Cavalheiro Basílio Jafet. There are no detours from bus lines in the Rua 25 de Março region.
Constructions
The construction site has already been set up by the company responsible for the demolition, on Rua Barão de Duprat. The city government informed that “the Start Order was signed for the services and both the investment and the duration of the interventions will be determined during the execution of the activities”.
The city government informed this Sunday (17) that the work plan for the demolition work is being prepared. After cleaning the site and shoring the floors, the technical teams will analyze the state of the structural elements, such as beams, pillars and slabs, to then define the demolition schedule.
Occurrence
The fire on Rua Barão de Duprat started on Sunday (10) around 9 pm and was only extinguished on Thursday (14). There are around 4,200 stores in the area and between 150,000 and 300,000 people circulate daily, depending on the time of year.
The fire started on the ground floor of the ten-story building and spread to other properties. Two shops and part of the building of the Antiochian Orthodox Parish of the Annunciation to Our Lady were destroyed. It is the first Orthodox church in Brazil and dates from 1904.
The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that the investigation is being carried out by the 1st Police District, located in Sé. For the investigation, witnesses who live near the buildings were heard, as well as janitors and trustees, and expert reports are being prepared. The agency also said that “procedures are still in progress with a view to clarifying the circumstances of the facts”.
