President Alberto Fernandez He had a bilateral meeting with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, at the San Martín Palace, after 7:30 p.m., where both politicians ended by signing a memorandum focused on the transition to clean energy. In addition, both nations intend to strengthen themselves in the area of entrepreneurship, start-ups and the knowledge economy.
In the first instance, Foreign Minister Scholz arrived in Argentina at 6:00 p.m. at the Ezeiza International Airport. This German politician was received by his par ArgentinianSantiago Cafiero, with a delegation made up of collaborators and businessmen without the presence of the president Alberto Fernandez.
An hour and a half later, the long-awaited moment arrived when Olaf Scholz and Alberto Fernandez met to strengthen relations between their countries signing the understanding on strengthening cooperation in the transition to clean energy. This agreement shows Germany’s interest in importing energy from the countries of the southern cone, such as Brazil, Chile and our territory.
In turn, it is presumed that Argentina will increase the amount of exports of both these energies and economic services based on knowledge. Being Germany the main trading partner of our country in the European Union, it was announced that, only in 2022, the total trade between the two nations exceeded 3.6 billion dollars, having an increase of 8% compared to 2021.
Among the main products that Argentina exported to the German country are bovine meat, inorganic chemical products, raw silver, combed wool and natural honey. These goods produced income for Argentine soil for 883 million dollars. On the other hand, the arrival of Scholz in the southern cone is due to the European Union’s strategy to consolidate agreements between the European economic bloc and Mercosur, since China and Russia are in constant progress in their region.
Argentina in the Climate Club
In addition to the negotiations on clean energy, exports of knowledge services and the German need to prevent the advance of Russia and China in markets considered peripheral, the German Szholz invited the Argentine president to participate in the Climate Club, which until now consists of a group of countries that will analyze the climate impact on the world.
It is because of this initiative of nations that the European country seeks imports of clean energy after the war between Russia and Ukraine that began in February last year made it difficult to receive energy goods from the bicontinental country.
