Classes suspended in Antofagasta due to toxic smoke alert after fire at former La Chimba landfill

The Antofagasta Education Seremi confirmed the suspension of classes for tomorrow, Monday, June 13, and Tuesday, June 14, for all establishments in the northern part of the city.

As indicated Radio Biobio, the measure includes kindergartens, schools, colleges, and high schools that are located north of Nicolás Tirado street. All those educational establishments that are outside the range will have normal classes during this week.

The action is carried out preventively due to the Yellow Alert that is in force in the city as a result of the burning of garbage that was registered this week in La Chimba and that caused toxic smoke.

This temporary measure is one of the actions that local authorities are carrying out in order to prevent negative consequences on the population due to the environmental situation after the fire at the former La Chimba landfill, in Antofagasta.
