Claro Dominican reported that it launched for the first time in the country, the fourth generation Fiber Optic (Xgsponfor its acronym in English), a network with the capacity to reach up to 10 thousand megabytes of download and 10 thousand megabytes of symmetrical upload, four times faster than the previous generation (GPON).
The company indicated that the launch positions the Dominican Republic as the fourth country in Latin America to offer Xgsponwhere “XG” represents 10 Gigabits, “S” denotes symmetry (identical download and upload speeds) and “PON” stands for Passive Optical Network.
“This proposal of symmetric internet for homes and businesses allows you to send and receive data with the same upload and download force, which guarantees the stability and speed required and necessary in the face of the exponential growth in demand for data use generated by Big DataArtificial Intelligence, immersive virtual reality, cloud gaming and 8K video,” the company said in a release.
The service will be complemented with the new modem latest generation Wi-Fi 6 that provides a wireless experience optimal due to the large number of simultaneously connected devices (tablets, mobile phones, cameras, access doors, televisions, air conditioners, among others).
- It is initially available in Saint Dominic and Santiagowith symmetrical plans up to 1,000 megabytes of download and 1,000 megabytes of upload, which include the modem with Wi-Fi 6 technology.
Differences from the previous generation
Carlos Cuetopresident of Claro Dominicanpointed out that this “robust and efficient” solution comes within the framework of the 95th anniversary of the company, marking a decisive advance in the development of fiber optic networks and reaffirming the commitment to contribute to the social development and economic development of the country through technology and innovation.
He explained that the main difference between the previous generation (GPON) and this fourth generation (Xgspon) of passive optical networks lies in two fundamental aspects: the maximum capacity transmission rate, that is, the total volume of data that the network can transport simultaneously, usually measured in megabit per second (Mbps); and speed, how quickly that data moves under practical conditions, which depends on factors such as latency, distance to the server and quality of equipment.
Omar Acostavice president of Marketing and Corporate Communications of the company, stated that the value of the fourth generation lies in his high capacityso Dominicans will be able to maximize education, entertainment and work productivity in an environment where everything happens instantly.
Furthermore, he indicated that the fourth generation Fiber Optic (Xgspon) marks a leap in technology and a total change in the evolution of the Internet in Dominican Republicas it is designed to respond to both the current needs and the future demands of Dominicans: support an increasing volume of information, enjoy high-quality content and accompany the sustained growth of data consumption in an unprecedented traffic scenario.
