Two clandestine cosmetics factories were closed in Nilópolis and São João de Meriti, in Baixada Fluminense by the Civil Police. The action resulted in the arrest of two people in the act.
The operation fulfilled search and seizure warrants and found that manufacturers adulted the packaging, labels and even the content of the product illegally marketed, endangering the lives of consumers. Investigations pointed out that the production of counterfeit cosmetics on a large scale had modern machinery. Both establishments were banned.
The factories had precarious working conditions, with employees working without protective equipment. The agents identified fraud with the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) as a way to obtain authorization for the production of cosmetics, manufactured in unhealthy environment, endangering integrity and the health of employees of the company and consumers.
The company owner and a manager were arrested in the act for crimes against immaterial property and public health.
“The investigations will continue to identify other people involved in the scheme. It is estimated that the group has moved millions of reais with the illegal operation, which will be accounted for at the end of investigations,” said the Civil Police.
Rules
According to Anvisa, any products that do not meet the rules defined by the agency are irregular and therefore do not offer guarantees of effectiveness, safety and quality required. In practice, this is a risk of damage and threat to health.
The requirements for regularization vary according to the type of product. The set of irregular products includes, among others, those without registration or notification at the agency, the counterfeit, stolen or smuggled products whose advertising is considered inappropriate and those with quality deviations in their manufacturing process.
