During his visit to the Curirenda captaincy and after inspecting the clandestine metal bridge that was built over the Parapetí river, the Minister of Public Works, Edgar Montaño, reproached the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, for the work that It does not have an environmental license.
The authority suggested suing Camacho for the construction carried out by the Mennonites near the Anmi Kaa Iya National Park.
“The issue of the bridge, it must be said with great wisdom and with great manliness: this bridge does not have an environmental license. The one who should grant the environmental license is Governor Camacho and he has not done it. So who should be sued? It’s Governor Camacho and not washing his hands and threatening you with a lawsuit,” said Montaño before the community members of Cuarirenda, in the municipality of Charagua.

Montaño singled out Camacho as the only culprit. “They will have to go to court and report why they didn’t check and at last, when the bridge is finished, they just begin to threaten our communities,” he accused.
The authority also referred to the request of the local representatives, who alleged that they used the bridge and requested to carry out the procedures for its legalization.
“Since there is no environmental license, what must be done is an environmental manifesto (…) It is what our brother said ‘do whatever has to be done, so that it is legal,'” he quoted.
The case
The case came to light after the Nómadas portal denounced the construction by the Mennonite community of a 200-meter bridge that crosses the Parapetí river and opens the way to the deforestation of a wooded area near the Bañados del Isoso, which are a Ramsar site.
After an inspection of the site, Camacho announced last Friday a lawsuit for the environmental impact and ecological damage caused by the work. In addition, he pointed to the ABT and INRA to allow the opening of the route.
On the occasion, the governor specified that the 14 kilometers of road and the bridge cannot be authorized by the indigenous autonomies because “the only competent authority to authorize this type of work is the Departmental Government,” he indicated.
