51% of the population in Paraguay has already received the first dose of the vaccine against covid-19, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare revealed this Friday.
In total, 8,070,740 doses have been administered, of which 3,786,964 correspond to the first application and 3,185,645 to the second or the complete scheme.
In the case of the second dose, coverage reaches 43% of the country’s inhabitants, according to figures released during the weekly press conference on the pandemic situation.
The director of the country’s Expanded Immunization Program, Héctor Castro, stressed that 1,098,131 booster doses have already been applied, which represents a coverage of 15% of the population.
“It is an important fact,” said the official, who stressed the importance of a complete vaccination to prevent “serious forms” of the disease.
For her part, the general director of Health Surveillance, Sandra Irala, indicated that the country has experienced a decrease in cases over the last three weeks.
During that period, he illustrated, it went “from 34,000 and a little more cases to around 17,000” up to 12,000 infections registered in the last week.
Official figures show 17,580 positive cases between February 6 and 12, which represented a 49% drop compared to the previous period. During that period, 324 deaths were reported.
In turn, between February 13 and 19, cases fell by 31%, with a total of 12,195 infected, while deaths fell by 17.6%, when 305 deaths were recorded. This week, retrospective records of both infections and deaths were included, health authorities said.
