The situation generated by the rural fires in Corrientes continues to be “very complicated” and with “many fire fronts” in the northeastern part of the province, the head of local Civil Defense Operations, Orlando Bertoni, said Thursday about the fires. that have already devastated almost 800 thousand hectares.

Bertoni did not specify the number of outbreaks that are being fought at this time, but pointed out that “it is variable, because some turn off and others turn on, everything is very changeable”.

The official remarked that “the real relief would be the rain, but the forecast shows some possibility in the afternoon, with percentages between 40 and 70 percent” and something similar tomorrow.

“Until it rains the situation is going to be criticalbeyond the excellent work of firefighters, brigade members, hydrant planes and collaborators,” Bertoni told Télam.

Meanwhile, he explained that in the Department of Santo Tomé the panorama “continues to be very complicated” and added that in Lavalle a high-tension cable fell and caused fires that “advanced on a shed and precarious homes.”

In addition, he pointed out that fires are registered in areas located on the banks of the Uruguay River and that “There are planes working everywhere.”

Bertoni referred to the terrible consequences of the fire for native vegetation and wildlife, along with the damage caused to fields and forest plantations.

“We have seen capybaras, honey bears, alligators fleeing from the flames”lamented the Civil Defense official about the balance that the fires are leaving in the province.

Finally, Bertoni highlighted “the great solidarity of the people”, especially to assist those who are working on the fire front.

“The same people bring things to the firefighters and work bases,” he concluded.
