The secretary of the Regional Civil Defense Platform and deputy manager of the Regional Government of Junín, architect José Vásquez Loaiza, reported that the El Tambo district was the most affected by the intense rains recorded recently, with dozens of homes damaged. Damage was also reported in Chilca, Sapallanga and Huancán, with the Chilca health center being one of the most affected.

Vásquez specified that district and provincial mayors must take immediate actions and apply their response plans. “The rains are a recurring phenomenon. They begin in September and last until March or April. Local authorities must have already carried out clearing, ditching and preparing warehouses with machinery and first response personnel,” he noted.

Likewise, he indicated that the latest precipitation showed that some municipalities still do not provide immediate support. He recalled that district and provincial platforms must implement the seven disaster risk management processes: estimation, prevention, reduction, preparation, response, rehabilitation and reconstruction.
The official added that, although the provincial municipalities are partially fulfilling these functions, the districts face greater limitations due to the lack of machinery, fuel and specialized personnel to respond to emergencies.
