The risk of heavy rains in the Southeast Region of the country sparked the alert in the National Civil Defense. In a note, the agency informed that meteorological warnings of great danger of heavy rains (red) were issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) for Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The storms, predicted to happen in the next few hours, can be accompanied by hail and wind gusts above 100 kilometers per hour (km/h).
According to Inmet, the expected rainfall is above 100 millimeters (mm) per day. The regions with the greatest potential to be affected in São Paulo are the Metropolitan and Macro Metropolitan regions of the city of São Paulo, Campinas, Araraquara, Piracicaba, Ribeirão Preto and Vale do Paraíba. In Minas Gerais, the areas of greatest attention are south/southwest, Zona da Mata, Campo das Vertentes and west. In addition, residents of the south and center of Rio de Janeiro and the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro should also be on the alert.
“It is important for the population to be aware and follow the dissemination of other information on social networks and through the alerts sent by SMS. It is also important to seek guidance from the municipal and state civil defenses, which need to have a plan for the occurrence of heavy rains. The ideal is to map the locations with the greatest risk and, if necessary, carry out preventive evacuation”, recommended Armin Braun, director of the National Center for Risk and Disaster Management (Cenad).
care
The National Civil Defense also lists a series of precautions for residents in times of heavy rains. These precautions can help reduce material damage and preserve lives in the event of serious occurrences.
Among the recommendations is the shutdown of electrical appliances and the general energy board. In the event of a flood or similar, place documents and valuables in plastic bags. If there is a confirmed situation of great danger in your area, seek shelter and avoid being outdoors.
