Civil Defense renews high risk alert for fires in SP

A high risk alert for fires in the state of São Paulo was renewed by the state’s Civil Defense until next Tuesday (10). The Risk Map, one of the technological tools that assists the Civil Defense in monitoring vegetation fires during the dry season, indicates the possibility of fire risks throughout the state of São Paulo.Civil Defense renews high risk alert for fires in SP

According to the state’s Emergency Management Center (CGE), for the next few days the north, northwest and west regions of the state will continue to have dry weather and no rain.

Temperatures continue to rise, with relative humidity decreasing and reaching critical levels, below 35%, leaving the feeling of hot and muggy weather. Temperatures could reach 33ºC in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.

In São José do Rio Preto and Araçatuba, temperatures are expected to be around 38ºC. In Presidente Prudente and Marília, temperatures may reach a maximum of 39ºC. In both locations, relative humidity should be below 15%. In Campinas, Sorocaba, Araraquara and Bauru, maximum temperatures should be 36ºC. In Franca, Barretos and Ribeirão Preto, maximum temperatures of up to 37ºC. Humidity should be below 20%.

Heat

For the Itapeva Region, maximum temperature of 36ºC and humidity below 25%. In the Paraíba Valley Region, maximum temperature of 33ºC with humidity below 30% and, in the Serra da Mantiqueira Region, the maximum temperature reaches 27ºC. And the relative humidity of the air will be below 30%.

Since last Sunday, 81 conservation units located in the metropolitan region and interior of the state of São Paulo have been closed on an emergency basis. “The decision was made in response to the growing risk of forest fires, which endanger both visitors and preservation areas,” says the Forestry Foundation (FF).

The closure will continue until September 12, and may be revised depending on weather conditions and associated risks. During this period, the Forestry Foundation teams are fully mobilized, focusing on prevention actions, territorial monitoring and firefighting, in addition to providing support to neighboring communities.

According to the state’s Civil Defense, there are fire outbreaks in the metropolitan region of São Paulo (Mairiporã and Jaraguá); in the Paraíba Valley (Cunha); Campinas Region (Monte Alegre do Sul, Bom Jesus dos Perdões, Piracicaba and Valinhos); Bauru Region (Dois Córregos); Marília Region (Pompéia); Franca Region (Pedregulho) and Araçatuba Region (Braúma and Ilha Solteira).

Prison

The State Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) reported that a 34-year-old man was arrested after setting fire to a plot of land on the afternoon of last Thursday (5), in the central region of Franca. Witnesses caught the action and called the Municipal Guard and the flames were contained without calling the Fire Department. Two others involved in the fire managed to escape and are still being sought.

“In addition to them, another 12 people were arrested for causing vegetation fires, two of them in Franca, three in Batatais, two in São José do Rio Preto, one in Jales, one in Guaraci, one in Pindorama, one in Salto and another in São Bernardo do Campo.

In addition, in Porto Ferreira, the Environmental Police charged two men for lighting a fire to clear vegetation. The Civil Police are investigating all 12 cases, which are not related, the Public Security Department said in a statement.
