Civil Defense deploys 8,178 members in national holiday operation

Defensa Civil despliega 8,178 miembros en operativo nacional por festividades

Santo Domingo.– The Civil defense spread a wide preventive operation on the main roads of the country on the occasion of the festivities of Christmas and New Yearwith the aim of preserving the lives of thousands of citizens who mobilize during this period.

The operation, led by the director of the organization, Juan Salasinvolves 8,178 membersbetween volunteers and employees, who will be distributed in different strategic points of the national territory. Salas, who also chairs the National Emergency Commissionsupervised the start of actions in the Eastern region, specifically in The Romanwhere he held a meeting with the governor of La Altagracia, Daysi D’Oleo.

As part of the deployment, the Civil Defense enabled 385 aid stationssupported by 123 doctors and paramedicsbrigade members, search and rescue specialists, as well as vehicle extrication technicians, in order to respond in a timely manner to any eventuality.

Prehospital care

Likewise, they were arranged 12 ambulances equipped with medicines and medical supplies, in addition to two pre-hospital care posts located under the Juan Carlos Bridge, at the intersection of the Las Américas Highway with Charles de Gaulle Avenue, and in the kilometer 87½ of the Duarte Highwayin the Monseñor Nouel province.

The operation also includes the placement of nine mobile rescue unitsequipped with specialized tools to deal with traffic accidents in key points of the country.

During the supervision they participated Delfin Rodriguezdeputy director and person in charge of Civil Defense Operations, as well as the provincial directors of La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, El Seibo and La Altagraciawhom Salas urged to apply all necessary measures to prevent the loss of human life.

Operation phase

As part of the first phase of the operationwhich began on Tuesday, December 23, were carried out preventive flags and they were distributed information brochures aimed at promoting road safety, highlighting the use of seat belts, respect for pedestrians, compliance with speed limits and abstention from alcohol consumption and cell phone use when driving.

These actions will be repeated during the second phasecorresponding to the New Year’s Eve and New Year festivities.

Finally, Juan Salas called on the prudence and citizen responsibilityurging the population to enjoy the festivities safely and in compliance with traffic regulations, while sending a message of peace and well-being to the Dominican people.
