More than 60 machines and technical teams were sent this Sunday (22), by the Rio de Janeiro government, to support cities hit by the latest rains. The municipalities of Itaperuna, São Fidélis, Paty do Alferes, Santa Maria Madalena, São Sebastião do Alto, Cambuci, Itaocara, Barra Mansa, Bom Jardim, Nova Iguaçu and Mesquita were served. The mobilization aims to reduce risks, recover affected areas and minimize damage caused by the rain that hit the state this Saturday (21).
A team was also sent to Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense. The municipality was one of the hardest hit and declared an emergency situation. The work fronts are focused on unblocking access, removing debris, supporting drainage and recovering areas impacted by rain, in conjunction with municipal civil defenses.
In the last 24 hours, the State Secretariat for Civil Defense responded to several incidents. Alerts were sent for intense rain and flooding in the cities of Nova Iguaçu, São Gonçalo, Petrópolis, Duque de Caxias, Belford Roxo, Niterói, Angra dos Reis, Nilópolis, São João de Meriti and Mesquita. In addition, 18 sirens were activated in the municipalities of Petrópolis, Duque de Caxias, São João de Meriti, Rio de Janeiro and Mangaratiba. 52 incidents related to rain were recorded, with no victims.
The Secretariat for Social Development and Human Rights, through the Subsecretariat for Management of the Unified Social Assistance System, is monitoring the situation in cities affected by heavy rains, but there has not yet been a formal request for inputs from the municipalities, the agency said.
Risks
According to the State Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alert Center (Cemaden-RJ), areas of instability, associated with a convergence of humidity, will maintain unstable weather this Sunday. The forecast is for partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated showers of rain, with lightning.
The hydrological risk remains very high in Duque de Caxias and high in Angra dos Reis, Nova Iguaçu, Mesquita, Belford Roxo, Nilópolis and São João de Meriti. In terms of geological risk, due to the high accumulated rainfall, high risk conditions remain in the cities of Angra dos Reis, Nova Iguaçu, Belford Roxo and Mesquita.
There is moderate risk for Resende, Engenheiro Paulo de Frontin, Piraí, Mendes, Miguel Pereira, Paracambi, Seropédica, Itaguaí, Queimados, Japeri, Rio Claro, Magé, Cachoeiras de Macacu, Teresópolis, Nova Friburgo, São José do Vale do Rio Preto, Sumidouro, Sapucaia, Carmo, Itaperuna, Natividade, Varre-Sai, Porciúncula, São João de Meriti and Nilópolis.
