Residents of the Federal District and 12 more municipalities from the three states of the Midwest region will receive on a test, this Saturday (27), from 3 pm (Brasília time), emergency warnings of the Civil Defense on risks of natural disasters of great danger.
The tool test goal Civil Defense Alert (DCA) It is simulating the warning to people who are in imminent risk locations, for example, flooding, floods, landslides, windows and hail rain, among others, to adopt protective measures.
In addition to Brasilia and Administrative Regions of the Federal District, the following municipalities are on the list to receive simulated warnings about the imminence of risk of natural disasters:
· Goiânia, Itumbiara, Formosa and City of Goiás, in Goiás;
· Campo Grande, Dourados, Corumbá and Três Lagoas, in Mato Grosso do Sul;
· Cuiabá, Rondonópolis, Tangará da Serra and Rio Branco, in Mato Grosso.
The alerts will be sound and/or visuals sent to all cell phones of the locations under test, connected to the 4G or 5G mobile technology network. Risk communication will be done in the Portuguese language, initially.
How it works
The device Civil Defense Alert It uses transmission technology via mobile phone and the service is free. No prior registration of the user is required to receive alert messages. You Smartphones Launched from 2020 are compatible with the tool. By default, the devices are enabled.
Therefore, the user does not need to change any setting on his own cell phone to receive the sent messages.
The feature works regardless of the mobile data package. The alert will appear on the device screen overlapping any content being accessed on the mobile phone, even if the user is using internet, watching videos or listening to music or with the device in silent mode.
However, if the phone is only connected to Wi-Fi, the alert will not be received because it is necessary to be connected to the 4G or 5G mobile network.
For people with visual difficulties, besides the sound alert, there is a mobile functionality that allows the reading of the alert.
Disaster prevention
THE Civil Defense Alert Modernizes the country’s disaster prevention system and complements warnings of alerts by other means, which will not be replaced: SMSPay TV, WhatsApp, Telegram and Google Public Alerts.
Depending on the severity of the alert, the system may also issue a sound signal similar to a siren.
The content of the alerts and the moment of sending the contents are the responsibility of the civil defenses departments of state and municipalities.
There will be no charge for receiving emergency alerts. Thus, any contact received in the name of provider or institution requesting the payment of amounts represents an attempt to scap.
Tested system
THE Civil Defense Alert (DCA) It was developed by the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR), with technical support from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and participation of the Ministry of Communications (MCOM), Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom-PR), operators of mobile telephony and state and municipal civil defenses.
The implementation of the DCA was done in phases. The first alerts of Civil Defense Alert (DCA) were issued in August 2024, in the pilot stage held in 11 municipalities of the South and Southeast regions. From December 4, 2024, all states of these regions were able to use technology.
In June this year, after training made between March and April, the nine northeast states also had the system. The sending of demonstration warning was made on June 14, with official start of the operation on June 18.
The North, Midwest and the Federal District regions have had their state civil defense agents trained last May and June.
This month, the service will be enabled in northern Brazil.
Finally, with the test stage in the Midwest, the Civil Defense Alert It will effectively be available to the Midwest populations in October 2025.
