The civic president of Montero, Hugo Serrate, said this Saturday that they will not lift the blockade until there is a tentative date to reopen the new Oscar Urenda Hospital. Meanwhile, the Government of Santa Cruz estimates that the administrative procedures will take a few more days.

The pressure measure is carried out at the height of Puesto Méndez, municipality of Montero, a route that connects Cochabamba with Santa Cruz, where dozens of passengers were observed walking through the place, others used the motorcycle taxi service, although high costs.

“We are asking for the tentative date for the opening of the Montero Hospital to be given, we want you to tell us approximately when it will start operating. That they say how long this hospital will open, and with that, we will analyze with all the institutions and civil society if they are in agreement with them and being consistent with the cause, the pressure measure can be stopped, “emphasized Serrate.

He said that there is a pronouncement from the Government of Santa Cruz that this hospital will be opened in 35 to 40 days, but that has to be concrete and there has to be a commitment from the authorities, both from the Central and Departmental Governments, and from this way to give certainty to the people.

“The population needs this hospital that benefits more than half a million people, it is a huge hospital that can decongest the entire integrated north and the hospitals of Santa Cruz de la Sierra,” he said.

However, he said that when the authorities had the will and issued the biministerial resolution, they were flexible and gave an intermediate room for the vehicles to pass. But, the civic now see that there is a lack of clarity on the issue and they asked for a tentative date to open that hospital.

For his part, Giannine Salazar, president of the Montero Women’s Civic Committee, stated that they are firm in their demand that once and for all they start attending the Montero Hospital.

“The 15 provinces are firm and supportive, because the Integrated North needs it and the population requires it, we know that blockades are unnecessary, but we also know that people are dying due to lack of medical attention, therefore, we will continue to support”, Salazar warned.
