He Civic Forum issued a statement this Thursday, January 16, under the title “The democratic legitimacy of power involves respecting popular sovereignty.”
In this sense, the organization highlighted that the National Electoral Council (CNE) did not comply with its obligation to publish the results of the presidential elections of July 28, “in tabulated form as an integral part of the process of totalizing results.” He warned that this non-compliance contrasts with articles 150 and 155 of the Organic Law of Electoral Processes (Lopre), but, in addition, “it has been regulated in each election, it is a reflection of serious legal and operational omissions on the part of the governing body.” .
The Forum emphasized that the Venezuelan “mobilized with a civic spirit to express his desire for the transformation of the country, and continues to demand respect for his will, which implies a transparent verification of the electoral results.”
The organization pointed out that “it is impossible” to trust the Electoral Power “if transparency is not guaranteed in the procedures, calculations and issuance of results, guaranteed in turn by the series of citizen and technical audits stipulated as an unobjectionable requirement for the proclamation of a candidate as winner.

The Civic Forum warned that, within this scenario, “the swearing-in of a candidate as acting president (Nicolás Maduro) without having complied with the provisions of the Constitution, the electoral laws and regulations, generated a resounding rejection both in the country and in the world. Repair the structural and profound damage that this caused in trust towards the electoral institution and the vote, an irreplaceable democratic tool to sovereignly define the destiny of a Republic, which becomes more relevant when it comes to resolving a long conflict and enabling changes without violence, It is a necessity that already imposes the most arduous of challenges, the restitution of the legitimacy of the democratic system.
On the other hand, the organization requested end all arbitrary detentions in the country, continue with the releases of people deprived of liberty for political reasons and guarantee full respect for human rights, including the right of association, peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.
