The Public Ministry has summoned to declare political economists, analysts and activists for their alleged relationship with the case known as the “failed coup.” The Prosecutor’s Office supports its actions on an alleged list of a “civil cabinet” that would have been prepared by General Juan José Zúñiga, former army, currently arrested.
The exhibition of the official documentary “What happened on 26j?”, Produced by the Ministry of Government, has included images, testimonies and audiovisual material that link these citizens in an alleged civil structure of support for the assonada, although so far there have been no evidence.
One of the summoned is Jaime Dunn de Ávila, a 56 -year -old economist, who appeared yesterday, in the face of the Special Force to fight the crime (FELCC) of La Paz. Speaking to the press, he said: “I am here to declare because my name has been mentioned as part of a cabinet that I do not know. I have presented myself voluntarily and with total transparency.” Dunn has been critical in the media about the economic situation of the country, but does not register criminal records or previous judicial processes.
Edgar Villegas, the engineer who denounced the fraud of 2019, was also summoned. According to El Dute, the Police told him that his name appeared as a candidate for the Supreme Electoral Court in the alleged plan. “I have not participated in any meeting, nor do I know General Zúñiga. I learned about this by the media,” said Villegas.
Gonzalo Chávez Álvarez, economist and university professor, also appeared to declare and said that “it is deeply outrageous and legally alarming that the Ministry of Government has produced and disseminated a documentary in which it gives by certain the existence of this alleged cabinet, it is presumed to blame for those mentioned and the name of the people without proof or due process is presumed publicly.”
The lawyer Joshua Bellot, another of those indicated in social networks after the dissemination of the documentary, publicly said that he has not been notified by any judicial instance. In a recent interview, he explained that his participation in legal analysis in the media has been interpreted as part of an alleged role within the case. “I have never received an official citation, nor have I been part of any process related to what happened on June 26,” he said.
The Prosecutor’s Office has not provided so far a detailed report on the origin of the lists or the criteria for calls or irregularities committed in the arrest of lawyer Jorge Valda. The General Commander of the Police, on the other hand, has reiterated that the investigation continues in progress and that elements are being collected to clarify the facts.
The aforementioned persons have requested that the investigation be carried out respecting constitutional guarantees and without violating fundamental rights.
