At kilometer 25 of the Duarte highway, no taxiing of Digesett was seen

After the holiday weekend, residents of Greater Santo Domingo who traveled to other provinces and municipalities, on the occasion of Christmas Eve and Christmas, began to return to the city.

After 6:00 in the afternoon yesterday, a greater flow began to be noticed at the entrance of vehicles due to the tolls located on the 6 de Noviembre highways, kilometer 25 of the Duarte and Las Américas. The latter presented greater vehicular traffic.

Contrary to what happened at the entrances located on November 6, Santo Domingo Oeste; Duarte highway, Pedro Brand municipality, where there were a few agents from the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transport (DIGESETT), Civil Defense, Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and other members of the relief agencies that make up the Christmas Operation “Awareness for Life, Christmas and New Year 2021-2022”, in Las Americas the presence of the authorities was felt.

A member of the MOPC explained that during the day there were some traffic accidents near the Kilometer 25 toll but explained that he does not have all the details since the statistics are managed by the authorities in charge of the operation.

Starting at 3:00 in the afternoon, prior to the start of the traditional Digesett highway, dozens of agents were stationed in the vicinity of the San Carlos Bridge and the Las Américas highway.

The control of the roads, as explained by the institution, began simultaneously in the East, on the Coral highway, from Punta Cana; in the North, in Santiago de los Caballeros; for the South, from Baní, Sánchez highway.

The consolidated bulletin of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), the Digesett carried out 11 thousand 98 inspections for various violations of law 63-17, they retained 138 heavy vehicles for driving without permission, 249 light vehicles and about 1,016 motorcycles because their drivers were not wearing protective helmets.

Also, 113 vehicles were inspected for driving without lights, 986 for speeding, while 1,140 road assistance was provided to citizens.

In the bulletin issued yesterday, it was explained that the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant) carried out 8,814 vehicle technical inspections of interurban public transport units in 275 terminals nationwide where it ordered the replacement and / or repair 1,752 tires, 3,418 lights, 1,461 broken or missing glass and 429 missing mirrors; 369 clean missing glass, 697 missing bumpers.

Civil Defense highlights volunteer work

The director of civil defense, Juan Salas, positively valued the work carried out by hundreds of volunteers in the 32 provinces of the country. He cited as an example the Santo Domingo-Samaná highway, in which he said the number of traffic accidents was reduced. He recalled that some 9,305 men and women were distributed in 355 aid stations due to the flow of people who travel for the festivities.
