A landslide at the entrance to the vehicular bridge over the Bilwas River in Matagalpa has left residents of the Jobo community in the municipality of Matiguás isolated, according to reports by citizens on social media.
In a video circulating on Facebook that has gone viral in recent hours, you can see the damage caused to the bridge by the undermining of soil at one of the bridge entrances, which prevents vehicles and pedestrians from crossing the area.
The heavy rains that increase the river’s flow have not given any respite and continue to undermine its slope, increasing the risk of further isolating nearby communities.
The Bilwas Bridge has not received any maintenance from the municipal authorities since 2020, when some of its tiles were replaced, according to anonymous complaints from residents and publications made in media outlets affiliated with the government.

Possible collapse of bridge in Ticuantepe
Another video circulating on social media is a citizen’s complaint about the terrible conditions of the pedestrian bridge in front of the roundabout at the entrance to Ticuantepe. According to anonymous complaints to our media, this bridge has been damaged since 2016.
“People are forced to cross the street running under the bridge, since the first steps of the bridge have been damaged since 2016, and those in charge of maintaining these bridges have been conspicuous by their absence,” says the citizen.
The pedestrian bridge is over the highway to Masaya, one of the busiest in the country. It has six lanes, which represents an imminent danger to those who cross the place.
According to local residents, the bridge could collapse due to the damage, causing accidents to vehicles and even the death of people. Following the complaints, workers showed up at the site on Sunday to carry out repairs to the structure.
