The international support comes hours after Vijil’s mother, Josefina Gurdián, affectionately known as Pinita, denounced the attack, together with the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) and Amnesty International, and demanded that the State initiate an investigation and They are allowed to see the political prisoner to corroborate her physical and psychological condition.

This call was also joined by the International Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights of Latin America, which through its Twitter account replied to the complaint and demanded that his family be allowed a visit. The Mesoamerican Initiative of Women Human Rights Defenders (IM-Defenders) also replied to the complaint.
“We call on the international community to show solidarity with Ana Margarita Vijil and the demands of her family to see her, verify her condition and clarify what happened; as well as to continue demanding freedom for all the people who remain political prisoners in Nicaragua ”, they expressed.
The Undersecretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs of the United States Department (USA), Brian A. Nichols, also condemned the imprisonment and assault suffered by Vijil on his Twitter account.
Vilma Núñez, president of the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh), explained that this organization, together with Amnesty International, will file a complaint with the Internal Affairs department of the National Police so that the facts can be investigated.
Supports complaint
The Blue and White National Unit (UNAB) also expressed its solidarity with the Vijil family and joined the public complaint demanding that the State respond to the serious violation of her human rights suffered by this political prisoner, who has been held incommunicado since she was arrested on June 13, 2021.
The Unión Democrática Renovadora (Unamos), formerly known as the Movimiento Renovador Sandinista (MRS), echoed the complaint made by the Vijil family, who was a member of that political group.
Monsignor Silvio Báez, Archbishop of the Diocese of Managua, lamented the aggression suffered by Vijil and expressed solidarity with his mother, Pinita, who suffers from cancer and recently underwent two surgeries and chemotherapy.

During the public complaint that took place this Thursday morning, Erika Guevara Rosas, representative for the Americas of Amnesty International, expressed concern about the aggression suffered by Vijil, but also expressed solidarity with the suffering of her mother, who confessed to being depressed after being imprisoned. of his daughter and granddaughter, Tamara Dávila, also detained in “el nuevo Chipote”.

I am suffering from depression because it is very hard not to know about my daughter, not to know about my granddaughter, to have them in that situation of uncertainty, cold, not knowing about them, it is very hard and this is aggravated by this complaint that we have received ” said Gurdián.
