Five cities in Rio Grande do Sul will receive another R$701,000 from the federal government to deal with the effects of the drought. The transfer will be made by the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development, which published the release ordinances in the Federal Official Gazette (DOU) this Friday (3).
According to the forecast, Cerrito will receive R$ 134,000 to rent a water truck, purchase a potable water tank to transport water and purchase 155 food kits. São Martinho da Serra will have more than R$109,700 available to buy basic food baskets and a water truck, with capacity to carry six thousand liters of water, while Miraguaí will have R$165,000 to buy food baskets.
The municipality of Barra do Guarita will receive R$ 130,000 for the purchase of basic food baskets and Boqueirão do Leão will use R$ 162,400 to rent water trucks and buy basic food baskets.
At the end of last month, the federal government had released R$ 430 million for areas of agriculture, social development and civil defense in several municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul affected by the drought. A delegation of ministers also visited the state about two weeks ago.
More than 300 municipalities have already declared a state of emergency. The federal government recognized the situation in almost 200 municipalities throughout the Southern Region. The measure facilitates the sending of extraordinary resources for works and emergency purchases.
Other states
In addition to Rio Grande Sul, municipalities in four other states will receive federal funds. In Santa Catarina, three cities were hit by heavy rains. São João Batista will receive R$ 430,000 to repair damages to the Alice da Silva Gomes Basic Education School, the Alice da Silva Gomes Municipal Nursery School, the Zé Carioca Children’s Nucleus, the Comecinho de Vida Children’s Nucleus, the Education Catarina Deschamps Steffens, from the Chapeuzinho Vermelho Children’s Center and from the Ignez Raitz Costa Municipal Nursery.
Major Gercino, in the same state, will have more than R$ 378.6 thousand for the construction of the Morro do Descanso Gallery, the Gerônimo Silveira Square Gallery, the ascent of a section of the laurel, cleaning of barriers on the ground, through the leasing of machinery, in addition to the recovery of the culvert in Três Barras and recomposition of asphalt concrete coating. Finally, Angelina will receive BRL 383,600 to restore traffic safety conditions.
In Pará, the city of Igarapé-Açu will use R$ 51.5 thousand to assist 67 families in social assistance programs. In Alveiro, the transfer of R$ 1.1 million will be used to purchase food baskets and hammock mattress kits for sleeping, and personal hygiene and cleaning products. Both were affected by heavy rains.
The Bahian municipality of Caatiba, which also suffered from heavy rains, will receive R$ 2.5 million to purchase food kits, mattresses, personal hygiene and cleaning products.
In Minas Gerais, the municipality of Novo Oriente de Minas will have R$ 11,700 available for the purchase of food, household cleaning material, hygiene material, mattresses and sleeping kits for the population affected by storms.
Cities in an emergency situation or state of public calamity recognized by the National Civil Defense are able to request resources from the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development to assist the affected population. Actions involve relief, assistance to victims, restoration of essential services and reconstruction of destroyed or damaged infrastructure. The request must be made through the Integrated Disaster Information System (S2iD).
