The Amazonian cities of Coari and Barcelos will receive, for at least 90 days, professionals from the National Force to help combat organized crime in the regions. The decision, published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Wednesday (18), was signed by the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Wellington César Lima e Silva.
The members of the National Force will act mainly against drug trafficking and to contain environmental crimes. The two cities are mainly accessed by river. Coari is close to the Solimões River, while Barcelos is on the banks of the Rio Negro.
The decision does not indicate when the contingents arrive in the municipalities or the number of professionals.
“The contingent to be made available will comply with the planning defined by the Directorate of the National Public Security Force, the National Secretariat of Public Security, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security”, informed the publication in the Official Gazette.
The use of the National Public Security Force in the regions is part of the Amazon Plan: Security and Sovereignty – Amas Planaimed at public security actions that observe the needs and specificities of the States that make up the Legal Amazon to reduce environmental crimes.
