The presidential candidate for the PDT, Ciro Gomes, said today (21) that the improvement of public education involves changing the pedagogical and student assessment standard used throughout the country. According to him, it is necessary to abandon “memorizing and shallow encyclopedism” and implement methods that value students’ critical and analytical thinking.
“We need to revoke this shallow encyclopedism and introduce a pedagogy that is the disruptive pedagogy of the professional in the digital world, in the knowledge economy, here are very exciting things. We have to teach content, including from two different points of view, in order to, by messing with the student’s head, force him to take the correct attitude of the digital professional, which is to associate the information that is posted and create new information”, he said.
According to Ciro, this will require a retraining of the entire Brazilian teaching profession and a reinforcement of the structures of co-financing and redistribution of resources destined to education. And to make these values viable, the candidate proposes to revoke the tax waiver on 36 “luxury products” from the basic food basket, such as salmon, Swiss cheese and filet mignon. “The PIS/Cofins tax waiver on these products is R$ 8 billion. With that, I can put 1 million full-time children in day care,” he said.
Ciro participated, this Wednesday, in a sabbath promoted by the newspaper The State of São Paulo and by the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation. During the event, the candidate also spoke about topics such as infrastructure, job creation, public security and tax reform.
