Circular economy in action: Peruvian startups recycle 500 thousand bottles with free robots and internet

The circular economy continues to gain ground in Peru with innovative proposals that seek to transform the way citizens relate to waste. Two initiatives stand out for their creativity and scope: Irbinthe first recycling robot with artificial intelligence in the country, and Googlenn Recyclingan interactive module that offers free Internet in exchange for recycled bottles.

The Minister of Production, Sergio González Guerrerohe informed that, together, both initiatives backed by Proinnóvate have allowed segregate about 500 thousand bottles and sensitize thousands of Peruvians about the importance of recycling correctly. “With the support of the Startup Peru, Irbin and Googlenn Recycling contest, they optimized their products with potential customers and have climbed into the market,” he said.

Irbin: a social robot to recycle and educate

Created by the startup CIRSYSfounded by Miguel Ángeles, Rodrigo Vega and Erick Carranza, Irbin (Intelligent Recycle Bin) combines artificial intelligence and environmental education. Since its implementation in 2019, it has recycled more than 350 thousand bottles and trained to 70 thousand people in good environmental practices. Robots are installed in shopping centers and public spaces of Lima and regions, becoming allies to promote waste separation.

Googlenn Recycling: Recycle to connect

The startup Googlenn Recyclingfounded by Glenn Aldave, devised a system that grants Five minutes of the Internet for free for each recycled plastic bottle. The module includes an educational panel that guides users in the process, and is currently installed in schools, municipal premises and in the Higher Institute of the Armed Forces, where the project was born. Since 2020, he has collected around 150 thousand plastic containers.

Open call for more innovations

The Ministry of Production recalled that the call of the Innovation Validation Contest – Prinnóvate Circular Economywhich offers non -refundable funds up to S/ 500 thousand For pilot projects or prototypes with marketing potential. Applications will be open until September 25 at 1:00 pm

With these initiatives, Peru advances towards a circular economy model that not only seeks to reduce waste, but also Educate, innovate and strengthen environmental sustainability.
