MÉRIDA, Mexico.- The thermoelectric plant (CTE) Carlos Manuel de Cespedeslocated in Cienfuegos, left the national electroenergy system (SEN) this Monday due to “intensive maintenance” to which it will undergo, as reported in the National Television News. (NTV).
According to the report from the official media, the CTE disconnected its two unitswhich had not left the system since the general fall of the SEN on October 20, reported reporter Bernardo Espinoza.
“The plant without generation, in intensive maintenance, is an unusual occurrence. Authorities assure that for more than 40 years, one of the two blocks of the thermoelectric “It was always online, except in rare moments,” said the regime spokesperson.
The thermoelectric plant’s managers aim to first complete the repair of Unit 3, which will go through a process of cleaning ducts and eliminating sediments and mussels that affect the flow of seawater for cooling.
José Osvaldo González Rodríguez, general director of the CTE, explained that with the “comprehensive technological intervention” they would restore “the design parameters” and regulate “the frequencies of the system.”
In Unit 4, on the other hand, there will be a more in-depth repair. Maintenance will be carried out on the economizer, exchangers and turbine. Critical parts will be replaced to allow a “reliable and sustainable” return to the SEN.
“We have all the logistical assurance so that the work in those blocks can be completed,” said the manager.
“Capitalized maintenance is going to be done on the boiler; The exchangers, superheaters, reheaters, the economizer, part of the primary superheater will be replaced, and the turbine will also be intervened,” he added.
However, despite having listed the procedures they will carry out, so far it has not been specified when the thermoelectric plant would be reconnected to the SEN.
The manager only pointed out that it cannot be ready “in a shorter period of time” due to the “complexity of the work, the technical rigor of the work, the magnitude of the work.”
The departure of the Cienfuegos plant, considered the most efficient within the national electro-energy system, increases the electrical impact in Cuba, forecast at 1,235 MW for peak hours this Monday.
Currently, the limitations on thermal generation are 339 MW and some 53 distributed generation plants are out of service due to fuel, which adds up to 274 MW less.
For the time of highest energy consumption, there will be an availability of 1,885 MW and a maximum demand of 3,050 MW, for a deficit of 1,165 MW, according to reported the Electrical Union in its daily part.
