Officials from the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (Cicpc) have intensified their work to prevent crime and suicide by consolidating a multidisciplinary team that articulates specialized care and emotional guidance. The general secretary of the Cicpc, C/G Mercy Bracho, explained that the institution integrated psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers to address this public health problem from a humanistic and preventive perspective.
“Working with families and in schools is also a necessary and fundamental pillar,” said Bracho, emphasizing that this team not only provides immediate support, but also guarantees access to professional support sustained over time.
The Cicpc strategy includes awareness-raising activities, educational programs and community support networks, with the aim of destigmatizing the issue of suicide and promoting safe spaces for seeking help.
The institution insists that each warning sign represents an opportunity to act and that prevention requires the joint commitment of security forces and society.
Comprehensive Crime Prevention
During the radio program Investigation for Peace, the General Commissioner of the Cicpc, Mercy Bracho, highlighted the implementation of the prevention program “Building the Path of Hope” as one of the great achievements of this security body. The program, for two years, has brought a message with perspective to every corner of the country, through investigation and crime prevention.
Likewise, Bracho explained that, after research work on the crime of suicide, which was based on the analysis of the files stored in the Crimes Against Persons Investigation Division, a multidisciplinary team was formed to develop strategies and tools to address this and other crimes against people.
“After an exhaustive analysis of each of the cases, carried out by a team of experts, we moved to each of the states where we carried out work with the victims and their families. We also used, to carry out this work, the ‘Skills for Life’ program of the United Nations National Office, which gave us wonderful results,” he said.
It should be noted that the Cicpc, through the development of different preventive programs, such as: “Don’t Get Entangled with Networks”, “Prevention of Drug Use”, “Prevention of Violence and Crime” and “Criminal Studies Goes to School”, strengthens the culture of security among citizens.
“This is nothing other than providing people, especially boys, girls, adolescents and adults from a very early age, with tools to face all the adversities that arise in life; knowing how to manage emotions. From the Cicpc, through prevention, we decided to build the path of hope, and that is what our program is called today,” he added.
Warning Signs
In relation to addressing Suicidal Behavior, the Commissioner General, Mercy Bracho, explained: “Today each of us has a great challenge and it is the issue of continuing to strengthen the plan to address suicidal behavior; just one word causes a difference between life and death, through active listening, and if we are not prepared to give a timely response, let’s listen,” she highlighted.
In this context, he invited the Venezuelan population to be alert to the development of signs that indicate that a person is at risk: “Sudden changes in behavior, adults who work and do not want to work are an alert, neglect in personal hygiene and more advanced cycles of goodbyes such as see you later, in case we don’t see each other again; let’s be alert and pending and thus strengthen prevention in the country,” he concluded.
