Churches in Cuba run out of hosts for masses

Iglesias de Cuba se quedan sin hostias para las misas

MIAMI, United States. — Representatives of the Cuban Catholic Church reported this Wednesday on the shortage of hosts due to lack of flour.

The notice was published by the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites of Santa Teresa, located on Calle 13, in the Havana neighborhood of Vedado.

“Praise Jesus Christ! We inform all dioceses that there are no longer any hosts for sale. We have been working with the little flour that was left and what was in reserve has already come to an end, ”says the information, shared through the Vida Cristiana platform.

“We hope and trust in the Lord that we can resume work soon and once we have enough to distribute to all the dioceses, we will notify you,” the publication adds.

“With this the Catholic Church would be in a bind, because without the forms the Eucharist cannot be celebrated,” journalist Mario J. Pentón expressed on social networks.

In recent months, several provinces in the country have reported a shortage of flour, a fact that has interrupted the supply of several basic necessities, including bread.

The difficulties with flour supply in Cuba were addressed several weeks ago in a report published by the Cuban Television Newscast.

The island’s authorities have recognized that, given the inability of the industry to meet the demand for bread, limits have been established on sales, which has generated dissatisfaction in the population.

The flour shortage was also addressed by the Cuban News Agency (ACN)which blamed the US embargo for the lack of the product.

“The current crisis has its roots in the economic siege imposed by the US blockade, to which is added the distance from where wheat must be imported, the increase in prices per ton of the product and also the increase in ship freight. transporting it,” the official media reported last September.
