The Catholic Church and the evangelical churches, grouped in the Dominican Council of Evangelical Unity (Codue), asked the population this morning to do everything possible to not leave their homes and temples, in prayer in this period of Holy Week, because Dominican society no longer endures more dead.
Father Kennedy Rodríguez, communications director of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, and Pastor Feliciano Lacen Custodio, president of Codue, agreed that the country is mourning and in reflection for the tragedy that occurred in the Jet Set disco, where 226 died.

They also agreed that people have to avoid mobilizing everywhere where they can be involved in discussions with other people, or in accident or personal confrontations that could degenerate in losses of life.
“We call prudence, because our Dominican nation already endures more dead in accidents, in pain situations, so that a call to all families, all our communities, to live in peace, in harmony, to also avoid confrontations, difficulties.” Father Rodriguez said.
He added that “many times there is violence because there are confrontations with each other, whether family or either from other people in particular, with respect also to that situation that has occurred in this fun center, well, we also hope that it is investigated so that everything fact is as clear as possible. There is a lot of pain, there is a lot of suffering in the family”
The Catholic leader said that Dominican society has to understand that God is asking for a time for reflection, prayer of being at home, of meditation of the meaning of life and more in this Holy Week.

He said that “those who are also people of faith, of goodwill who come to participate in the different rites and the different activities that the Church has today for one also to beat this situation of pain of suffering of sadness, the word thimble comforts.”
“The Word of God helps, the Word of God maintains, so it is important to approach the Church in prayer and reflection, you have to avoid any situation of much displacement. Every situation of recklessness must also be avoided,” Rodriguez said.
Solidarity and prudence are urged to prevent more tragedies in Dominican society
Pastor Lacen Custodio, president of Codue, asked the population to stay throughout this week and “these days that we are living a national mourning, staying refugee, concentrated and trying to communicate with the creator, with the sacred, and that we avoid everything, for all the media, more tragedy, more mourning to the Dominican people.”
“We call prudence, calm, solidarity, love for others, to value ourselves, which are moments of reflection, to rethink our life, to meet with our loved ones and more than ever give value that life has and take advantage of its brevity, enjoying life without offending God and neighbor and trying to bring calm and word of encouragement to all families,” he considered.
Lacen Custodio recommended that people try to stay in their homes, in communities where they reside, either in the urban area or in the countryside.

“We ask people to stay in their homes in prayer in the face of everything that happens and if for some reason you have to move, to be done with all possible care, with all possible prudence, fulfilling the transit protocols, complying with the traffic signs, reviewing our vehicles,” he said.
For the evangelical leader “this country no longer endures more tragedy, and we must all cooperate, they are moments of solidarity to each other, to accompany each other. It is not time to find guilty or signs. It is time that together we get up as a resilient country and that we are different.”
