The first meeting called “Communication and discussion of indigenous ancestry in Patagonia from DNA” will be held this Saturday in Chubut within the framework of the Week of the Original Peoples.
The activity will take place at the Centro Cultural de la Memoria which is on the outskirts of the city of Trelew, 20 kilometers west of Rawson, “with the aim of strengthening the work undertaken between the knowledge of science and the ancestral knowledge of the Communities”was explained in the call.
The meeting is organized by researchers from the Institute of Diversity and Southern Evolution (IDEAus) of the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (Conicet), in conjunction with the Directorate of Indigenous Affairs of the Government of Chubut.
The Undersecretary of Human Rights of Chubut, Carla Sanchez Galindoexplained in dialogue with Télam that “there is an important research work that was done based on DNA samples from volunteers where it is concluded that there is a very important component in the genetics of native peoples among our population.”
“The intention is precisely to get to know this work and share that knowledge” explained Sánchez Galindo.

According to the official communication “the workshop (to be held this Saturday) aims to expose the scientific work of genetic practices, making available the information obtained from various studies and agree on future forms of dissemination.”
It seeks to establish a new way of working and disseminating science based on consultation and respect for other worldviews.
This first meeting is aimed at members of communities from the province and related public, and will be developed through discussion tables and oral presentations.
