Chubut and Buenos Aires are the Argentine provinces with the largest number of wind turbines in operation in the country, according to a survey by the Argentine Wind Chamber (CEA).
“Today, there are 57 wind farms in operation distributed throughout Argentina that add up to a total of 3,292 MW of installed power thanks to the operation of more than 900 wind turbines,” the CEA said in a statement.
The existence of frequent and intense winds in a large part of the country means that Argentina has a superlative potential in at least 70% of its territory, the entity highlighted.
Yes ok Patagonia stands out for being one of the areas with the greatest wind potential on the planet Thanks to the persistence and speed of its winds, this natural resource is suitable and usable in other geographies, allowing high yields, he added.
Argentina has 3,292 MW of installed wind power distributed in the different regions: In the Northwest there are 158 MW; in the Center, 128 MW; in Comahue, 253 MW; the area of Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires, 1,177 MW and Patagonia, 1,576 MW.
The largest number of wind turbines is found in Chubut, which has 365; followed by the province of Buenos Aires, with 334; Holy Cross, 91; in La Rioja, 37; Cordoba, 36; Neuquén and Río Negro, 29 each; La Pampa, 11; and Santiago del Estero, 4.
Currently, there are 57 wind farms in operation in our territorybut there are projects under way, both construction and expansion, which will result in a greater number of wind turbines and, consequently, in greater energy production.
Among them, the La Elbita Wind Farm, in the province of Buenos Aires; the North San Luis Wind Farmin Saint Louis, and the Vivorata Park, in Buenos Aires; the Aluar Wind Farm, in Puerto Madryn; and the Arauco Wind Farmin La Rioja.
“Last year the wind turbines installed in the country generated 12,915.8 gigawatt hours (GWh), the equivalent of supplying more than 2.7 million homes,” said the entity’s general manager, Héctor Ruiz Moreno.
Argentina “has great potential thanks to its capacity factors, optimal topographical conditions and qualified technical personnel” and that “The wind industry can compete with any thermal alternative”he added.
In addition to the positive environmental impact of this form of renewable energy, which reduces the carbon footprint and leads to more sustainable economies, “in 2022 it is estimated that wind energy will save the country US$3.25 billion in foreign exchange,” concluded.
