A clothesline of complaints

The catharsis of years of confinement due to the pandemic made women return, recharged, to demand their rights. Nothing else, but nothing less.

The first obligatory stop was the Glorieta de las Mujeres que Chann, the one that the city government insists on naming the former Glorieta Colón and which has become the epicenter of complaints.

There dozens of multicolored pieces of paper remained as evidence.

But there were no sheets of paper and cardboard to flood the clothesline with hundreds of messages: Gabriel, Geovanni, Aarón, Carlos, Juan and dozens of male names, accused of rape, “he was family”, “he threatened to upload my photos to networks” , “I was afraid that something would happen to my parents if I denounced it”, was read in an endless mosaic of stories.

Those who did not use paper spray-painted the monuments. “You take care of the monuments, you leave us unprotected”; “If your daughter were the victim, aren’t they forms either?”

The statues of the Generals, on Avenida Reforma, the newsstands, the walls with which the businesses were protected — still with paint from three years ago, when the women last went out, before the confinement of the pandemic, were finished off with new messages- “We want each other alive”; “free and without fear”.

The cry remained in windows, street furniture and facades, again as evidence, waiting for something to change in a year, in 8M.
