Despite having the Zócalo free to arrive, the contingent decided to reach the Monument to the Revolution. Even when the Plaza de la República was full, there were contingents that continued to advance from the Ángel on Reforma.
“No to the destruction of the INE, no to the destruction of the local institutes, no to the destruction of the local courts, no to the pretense of aligning the electoral bodies to the will of the government, no to authoritarianism, yes to democracy , yes to a democratic Mexico”, was the message of José Woldenberg, first president of the electoral organization (formerly IFE), who became the voice of the opposition to the Electoral Reform during the march.
The UNAM academic referred that the existence of the INE has allowed political alternation –such as that of 2000 with the triumph of the PAN after 70 years of PRI governments and even the 2018 election, when Morena won with López Obrador as standard bearer– and warned on the risk of returning to “an electoral institution aligned with the president.”
“The major problem that forces us to take to the streets is that the government wants to deconstruct a good part of what has been built,” said Woldenberg.

The electoral reform, promoted by President López Obrador, seeks to change the INE to the National Institute for Elections and Consultations, in addition to reducing the number of electoral advisers and reducing the budget, among other changes.
