Saint Dominic .-As every year, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) announced yesterday the “Awareness for Life” operation for Christmas and New Year, which seeks to reduce the incidence of traffic accidents that are common for this time.
In this first phase of the operation, scheduled to begin next Monday at 2:00 in the afternoon and conclude on Wednesday, December 25 at 6:00 in the afternoon, some 47,422 people will participate, including volunteers and collaborators of the different relief institutions, who will provide assistance to the population at strategic points throughout the Dominican territory.
Available equipment
The director of the COE, Juan Manuel Méndez, indicated that they will have 540 ambulances and 75 vehicle rescue units, to respond to eventualities or emergencies that the population may experience as they travel to the interior of the country to spend the holidays with their families.
He reported that 1,243 fixed and mobile posts will be installed, which will be located in places where last year, as in other operations, the highest number of incidents occurred.
Added to this are three helicopters provided by the Ministry of Defense, two pre-hospital care centers, 18 mobile workshops and 16 vehicle extraction teams.
The institutions that make up the COE and in which brigade members, doctors, paramedics, military, police, search and rescue specialists attend, will establish a prevention device to prevent traffic accidents, alcohol and food poisoning.
“Citizen awareness will play the most important role, that is why I recommend driving with caution so that everyone who travels or walks reaches their destination and has a peaceful Christmas,” he expressed.
In order to reduce accidents in those who represent more than 75% of the cases, which are motorists, the head of the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation (Digesett), Francisco Osoria, said that they will be retaining the engines of those who do not wear the protective helmet and the equipment will not be delivered until they meet the location requirements.

The Intrant calls for using alternate routes.
Recommendation. The director of Mobility of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant), Alexandra Cedeño, urged the change of routes, especially at the exit from the capital to the south of the country due to the work that is currently being carried out by the 6 de Noviembre highway, which causes congestion at the Pintura stop, which is why the use of the Sánchez highway was recommended.
It also motivated the reduction of speed to avoid accidents.
For his part, the director of the Digesett suggested that the population access the entity’s website, in which the critical points of the roads will be posted, so that citizens can take precautions.
