Speeding, cell phone use while driving, drunkenness of drivers, are the main causes of traffic incidents in Ecuador.
Two crashes occurred during the morning of this Saturday, December 25, 2021 in Quito. The first was reported around 08:00, on Simón Bolívar avenue, at the height of Guápulo. A vehicle ended up turned on the road.

The Quito Fire Department reported on the incident that caused the closure of two lanes on Simón Bolívar avenue, south-north direction. In images shared by this entity, a sedan-type car is seen turned around.
A tow truck was needed to remove the vehicle. Firefighters cleared the road that had traces of fuel and oils.

Three hours later, around 11:00, another road accident was reported in the El Condado sector, in the north of the Ecuadorian capital.
The Metropolitan Transit Agency reported that a lane on Zagalita Street was closed. Other accidents occurred on Christmas Eve.
From January to November 2021, they have registered 19,337 traffic accidents throughout Ecuador, according to data from the National Transit Agency.
In that statistic, Guayas ranks first among the provinces with the highest number of claims: 7,098 in total. Second is Pichincha with 3,426.
According to the records of the authority in charge of road control, traffic accidents occur mainly because the driver is inattentive to the road due to the use of cell phone or other distractions, speeding and people who drive in a drunken state.
