The capital has the largest Christmas lighting in the world with recyclable materials, the lights are made with more than 100,000 bottles.
If you thought you had already seen everything in Christmas lighting, wait until you find out what is happening in Bogotá. This year, the city not only decorates its streets with traditional lights, but also hosts the largest lighting in the world made with recyclable materials. Designed and built by community of the La Palestine neighborhood in Bosa, this exhibition combines sustainability, creativity and Christmas spirit in a free plan for the whole family.
What is Christmas lighting made of recyclable materials like?
What makes this lighting unique is its sustainable approach: it is made from 100% recyclable materials, standing out especially for a huge tree built with 100,000 plastic bottles. The sculptures of the manger, figures of the Three Wise Men and other decorative elements are also made with cardboard, lids, bottles and materials that would normally end up as waste.
This project is not only a visual work: it is a symbol of creativity and environmental awareness that demonstrates how recycling can be transformed into art. The decoration was possible thanks to the joint work between the La Palestine Community Action Board and neighbors who collected material and built the figures that today illuminate the lighting.
In addition to its artistic value, this lighting is considered the largest in the world of its kindan achievement that has called the national and international attention due to its magnitude and the exclusive use of recycled materials.
