“Christmas in Justice and Freedom” is the campaign promoted by the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) to achieve the freedom of the 235 political prisoners of the Daniel Ortega regime.
“This campaign joins the global cry for the immediate release of the 235 political prisoners who are in the prisons of the Ortega-Murillo regime,” the organization reported this Tuesday, December 6, through its Twitter account.

With the initiative, Cenidh invites all the relatives of the prisoners of conscience and the Nicaraguan people to join, sharing the videos alluding to the campaign and using the Hashtag #ChristmasInJusticeAndFreedom.
“Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas in justice and freedom. Merry Christmas, a better world, without misery or oppression”, says part of the song by the Nicaraguan singer-songwriter Carlos Mejía Godoy, which Cenidh has used to demand the freedom of all prisoners of conscience, who are about to spend another year in prison. the different jails of Nicaragua at Christmas.
For her part, the human rights defender and director of Cenidh, Vilma Núñez, told Article 66 that it should be remembered that this date is «emblematic that is invoked worldwide. In all dictatorships it is always a date where freedom is demanded.
Francelly Navarro, a member of Cenidh, also added that this is “a general and worldwide cry for the freedom of political prisoners in Nicaragua.”

He explained that this campaign will be throughout the month of December and for this, audiovisual products will be made “to continue making all political prisoners visible. From Cenidh, we reiterate our commitment to the families of the victims of the Ortega and Murillo regime and we will maintain this demand until freedom is achieved.”
It should be noted that the Cenidh initiative joins others that have been promoted by opposition groups, such as the “Christmas without prisoners and political prisoners” campaign, whose objective, according to a Unab source, is to support the relatives of kidnapped opponents and “to raise awareness among the public about the right of girls and boys to see their fathers and mothers”.
In a first audiovisual work released by the opposition bloc, the girl Alejandra Mendoza, daughter of the political prisoner Miguel Mendoza, demanded to be able to be next to her father this Christmas, whom she has not seen for 533 days.
