A few days before celebrating Christmas, many are doing their shopping for this season. Scotiabank provided some recommendations that will help protect your credit card against possible losses or electronic scams.
Buy in safe places: When you make your purchase online, enter your data only on secure and reputable pages. Check that the virtual stores have the code “https” and a padlock in the address bar. Also, avoid clicking on suspicious pages and do not believe in “easy” prizes or anyone who asks for personal information in exchange for some kind of benefit.
Provide only necessary card information: You should know that online sales pages usually ask for your full name, card number, CVV and expiration date. Never provide your card code. Also, use secure and personal devices to make your transactions.
Activate or deactivate the control buttons in your app or web: Remember that from your application or website you can activate or deactivate online purchases and/or purchases abroad. Thus, we recommend using this option when you finish making an online purchase or want to start one. Remember to disable the control buttons for periods when you do not need to make purchases online.
Review your card movements: After making your purchases, review the movements on your card. If you see movements that you do not recognize, immediately block your card by calling Banking by Telephone.
Contact your entity: If you have any questions or queries about your card, you can contact the financial institution. Do not accept help from strangers or give them confidential information.
