The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) recommends giving gifts of crafts during these Christmas holidays. This contributes to the work of artisans, generating income. Without a doubt, an artistic expression that can be an ideal gift this holiday season.
Next, we present some crafts that can be taken as a reference to give away on this special date:
- TOYS. Toys and items for the little ones in the home cannot be missing. All the regions of Peru have very interesting proposals. For example, cars and wooden kitchens, dolls, stuffed animals, and countless beautiful items that children will love.
- HANDBAGS. Embroidered by hand and with a traditional loom, they are an alternative gift. They can be found with unique designs and colors. Thus, we have bags made by hand in kené design, traditional art of the Shipibo-Konibo people, as well as with traditional Ayacuchano embroidery, among others. Let’s not forget the works carried out in traditional looms in Cusco that are combined with other materials, such as leather, obtaining contemporary products.
- BELTS AND STRAPS. They are a special accessory. With unique designs and embroidery, the belts and straps can be used in various types of clothing. They can be found in the traditional technique of Ayacuchano embroidery, as well as in looms from different regions, standing out for their color and variety of designs.
- DRESSING ACCESSORIES. You can find various items such as dresses, pants, vests, gloves and knitted hats. These are made with natural fibers and with different craft techniques such as the loom, woven by hand or by machine.
- JEWELER’S. Peru is recognized for its works in silver and gold, mixing various materials with stone and matte inlays. Lima, Junín, Piura and Cusco are some regions that concentrate a large number of jewelry artisans who work unique pieces.
MINCETUR FAIRS
- The Mincetur has organized two craft fairs in Lima, where families can visit, admire and purchase various products. For example, until Friday, December 23, the “Artesanías de Lurín Business Event” is held in the Plaza Castilla of that district. The fair has 20 stands and the opening hours are from 10:00 am and 08:00 pm
- Also, the “Artesanías de Chosica” fair is held in the Plaza Mayor of the commune. It will be open until Saturday, December 24, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm There, 30 artisans present their best products, thanks to the coordinated work of Mincetur and the Municipality of Lurigancho-Chosica.
