MIAMI, United States. — The Christian Democratic Organization of America (ODCA) denounced the repression and harassment of the Cuban regime against relatives of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience.
In a resolution published this Friday, the organization expressed its solidarity with the relatives of political prisoners Yandier García Labrada, Ángel Jesús Veliz Marcano, Maikel Puig Bergolla, Roberto Pérez Fonseca, Jorge and Nadir Martín Perdomo, Luis Armando Cruz Aguilera, Yadir Ayala Ibáñez , among others.
The ODCA emphasized the case of Ailex Marcano Fabelomother of Ángel Jesús Véliz Marcano, one of the standard-bearers of the movement of mothers and relatives of the prisoners of 11J.
Marcano Fabelo was detained at her home since early yesterday morning and illegally detained for more than six hours by the political police so that she would not participate in the Mass that Cardinal Beniamino Stela, envoy of Pope Francis to offer in the city of Camagüey celebrate the 25th anniversary of the visit of Pope John Paul II to Cuba.
“This action, in addition to a violation of Mrs. Marcano’s civil rights, is a violation of religious freedom,” says the complaint made by the Christian platform.
According to the ODCA, the harassment and persecution against Ailex Marcano Fabelo and other relatives of political prisoners are nothing more than “repressive practices that seek to silence the voices of those who denounce the abuses suffered by their children or husbands in the prisons of the regime, the largest political jailer of our region”.
The ODCA called not to accept the normalization of these repressive acts.
“From the ODCA we condemn these actions and we will not accept their normalization. We renew our demand for the immediate release of the hundreds of Cuban men and women who are imprisoned for exercising their rights,” the resolution adds.
