At least eight people have died from a new outbreak of cholera in Haiti, as reported by the Minister of Public Health and Population of the Caribbean country, Laure Adrien.
According to the minister, multiple suspected cases had been detected in the capital, Port-au-Prince, and in the coastal community of Cite Soleil.
The authorities published a document on measures taken to reduce the spread of the virus, including the investigation of other possible positive cases.
“Most of the victims died in their communities and were unable to go to hospitals,” Adrien said.
The authorities called on the population to take extreme precautionary measures and hygiene habits, to avoid getting this disease.
Cholera is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium – Vibrio Cholerae – which, when entering a person’s body, causes profuse diarrhea.
