Chocó: Clashes between ELN and Clan del Golfo generate displacements and confinements

Clashes between the Clan del Golfo and the ELN in Chocó cause displacement and confinement in Sipí, authorities warn.

The governor of Chocó warned about a serious humanitarian crisis in the middle basin of the San Juan River, where clashes between the ELN and the Gulf Clan have caused displacement and confinement of rural communities.

The governor of Chocó, Nubia Carolina Córdoba, reported that this Friday an extraordinary security council was held to analyze the humanitarian situation that affects several areas of the department, in particular the middle basin of the San Juan River.

During the meeting, which included the participation of the different entities of the Government and the public force, the president pointed out that They reviewed the humanitarian alert that has been presented repeatedly in recent years in this region.

There were several points that were addressed, but the one that is causing the most concern is the forced displacement of rural communities in Buenas Brisas and San Agustín in the municipality of Sipídue to the clashes that have been taking place in recent days between the ELN and the Gulf Clan.

Governor Córdoba Curi warned that, in addition to displacement, these communities are in a “serious and sustained humanitarian crisis” due to the possible presence of explosive devices installed by these armed groups that are putting the lives of the people who live in these areas at risk.

Among the measures adopted after the analysis, the authorities began verifications of the impact to provide support to displaced communities confined to through the care pathway.

Until now, they do not know the total number of people affected by these confrontations, since they are in the census process and the collection of all the information.

The president made a new call to the National Government to adopt the necessary measures to protect these communities who continue to be victims of the actions of illegal armed groups.

It should be noted that the previous week an extraordinary security council had already been held with the presence of the Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez, where they evaluated the crisis experienced by the municipalities, subregions and the capital of the territory and commitments were made to strengthen State action and seek to protect the human rights of the Chocoanos.

The situation that currently exists in Chocó continues to show the humanitarian crisis that this department is constantly experiencing and the need to implement effective measures. that allow the protection of vulnerable communities.
