The serious revelation and accusation is made by the deserter of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) and former agent of the defunct General Directorate of State Security (DGSE), Marlon Gerardo Sáenz Cruz (El Chino Enoc), who is now exiled and denationalized in United States, accused by his former political colleagues as a “traitor to the country.”
On the morning of July 1, 2009, the tragic news of the death of the world boxing legend was known, supposedly by suicide, while he was mayor of the Nicaraguan capital.
The story of that suicide has always been questioned by the three-time champion’s children, but never before has a revelation been made with so many details that even mentions the bosses and material authors of a very well-planned plot, the product of woven political intrigues. within the FSLN, Daniel Ortega’s party, which cajoled the athlete to join them as a candidate for the capital commune in 2008.

The former State Security agent, now in exile in the United States, confirmed what was said at the time about Argüello’s crime, that the mayor would resign the next day in front of the media and would expose the totalitarian project. and dynastic that the Ortega-Murillo couple had on their hands.
Given that this press conference would be on July 1, the night before, Cerna convened a group of political operators to carry out a mission: convince Mayor Argüello not to provide the statements under the promise that he would continue to be mayor, but without power, and keep quiet, or else disappear from the scene.
Thus, the former head of State Security in the 80s called the general secretary of the Mayor’s Office of Managua (Alma), Fidel Moreno, the then political secretary of the FSLN in Managua, Edgardo Cuarezma; to the treasurer of the FSLN, Francisco “Chico López”, who posed as a “best friend of Argüello”; and Reinaldo Mairena, Alma worker.

The exiled Sandinista, who does not specify how he learned all these details of the Argüello assassination operation, assures that throughout the entire operation both Cerna and another of the plotters, Juan José Úbeda, were monitoring the development of events step by step.
Enoch continues to narrate that Alexis always carried a weapon, but that day he did not have it with him. Neither his bodyguard nor his driver were there.
The Sandinistas began to talk to the mayor, however they were unable to convince him. They tell him that the order is that “he has to pay attention, not to give the press conference, not to present his resignation and that Fidel Moreno is the power.” Alexis refuses. He does not accept that his power is usurped, he argues that the people of Managua elected him.
El Flaco Explosivo, as they called him in the ring, resists, argues, and reacts with blows against Fidel Moreno. Days before, the councilor had suffered mistreatment, humiliation and verbal attacks from Rosario Murillo herself and the son of the tyrants, Rafael Ortega.
The decision to denounce all this and resign was so firm that Alexis wrote a letter that he shared with his advisor, Dr. Eduardo Román, who, according to Sáenz Cruz, was the one who leaked the intention to resign to Lenín Cerna.
In that letter, until now unknown in Nicaragua, Alexis mentions the mistreatment of Murillo and his son Payo Ortega. The way in which they removed him from his position and relegated him and he even recognizes that he became mayor not as he would have liked, suggesting that they did fraud so that he would occupy the capital commune, as was denounced by the then liberal opposition candidate Eduardo Montealegre, who had competed for the capital’s seat with Argüello.
